About this story
My Name Is Markham gives the Security Section a voice of its own. After trouble surrounding preparations for the children's Christmas party, Markham, Peterson and Max are sent to Anglo-Saxon England to investigate Alfred and the cakes.
Markham tells the story himself, including his department's view of the historians it has to protect and Major Guthrie's advice on carrying out an assignment.
Our view: the change of storyteller is the main reason to choose this one. The familiar workplace looks different when a security officer gets to describe the History Department's habits instead of being described by it.
It is included in The Long and the Short of It, alongside The Great St Mary's Day Out, and has its own ebook edition. Both sit after Lies, Damned Lies, and History in this site's suggested sequence.
The individual UK unabridged audio performance is by Piers Wehner, with a running time of 1 hour 32 minutes.
